Jesus didn't come to free our bodies, didn't come to affect social change. He came to give us spiritual change.
The war I see Christians waging on a social or political front for religious reasons often seems like a distraction because it's not what Jesus did. Guys, slavery existed back then and he didn't end it. He didn't even mention it. And I think we can all agree that slavery is bad. This suggests that saving people's souls is more important than saving their bodies, that spiritual oppression is more threatening to humanity than physical oppression.
Therefore, while we should, of course, fight physical oppression because we're humans and that sort of fight is worthwhile, we also need to keep our priorities straight when it comes to which is more important: freedom from man or freedom from sin.
